The Bush Skills course (ranger training) was developed for international travelers who are looking for a personal African bush experience that is full of wilderness adventure and serves to acquire new practical and theoretical knowledge.
This 7-day course at Kwapa Camp in the southern Okavango Delta teaches excerpts from the extended courses for nature guides and hiking guides. This course is also an ideal introduction for guests who want to go on an intensive self-drive safari. While there are informative “lectures,” most of the training in the areas of nature takes place on foot, in a four-wheel drive vehicle and, depending on water level, by boat and mokoro (dugout canoe) and covers basic survival techniques, 4x4 driving skills, wilderness hiking, animal tracking, facts about dangerous mammals, geology of the delta, astronomy for navigation and knowledge about birds and crops.

OGS Bush Skills Certificate: This course is aimed at participants who want personal enrichment instead of pursuing a formal qualification to become a guide. You will receive an Okavango Guiding certificate to participate in the course.
You don't need any previous knowledge. However, you should have sufficient English language skills and a general good level of fitness.
First day: The African Guide Academy trainer meets all participants at the PPCC Indian Restaurant across from Maun Airport at 2 p.m. This allows participants to arrive on international flights on the first day of the course (these flights usually land at 1:15 p.m.). Participants will then have the opportunity to buy drinks, sweets, or other personal needs before embarking on the two-hour road transfer to Kwapa Camp. After arriving at camp in the late afternoon, the rest of this first day consists primarily of orientation and familiarity with the next few days. Meals: dinner
Daily activities: Every morning we wake up early and have breakfast and head off into the wilderness. The route we take and the mode of transportation we use is based on the wildlife movement and the specific destinations for the day. Wilderness trips are carried out on foot, by open off-road vehicle, motorboat or mokoro (dugout canoe). We return to camp late in the morning to receive a short presentation on one of our topics.
A hearty lunch is served at camp, followed by time for a shower, a siesta, and personal study. Tea is served in the afternoon, followed by another wilderness learning session and dinner.
During the week in Kwapa, we will also have a sleep-out, for which we will only bring the absolute minimum equipment. We drive to a secluded place and set up camp for the night, where we spend the night under the stars. The next day, we return to camp before lunch. Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner
Last day: After breakfast, we will return to Maun in time for the guests who have international flights. Meals - breakfast
Please note that the above process is only a rough overview, which may change depending on the needs of the participants or other external factors.
