Travel companion in Africa (M/F/D)

Since 1994, our partner has been offering unforgettable small group safaris through southern Africa — with experienced tour guides and like-minded fellow travelers. The tours combine authentic nature experiences with sustainable benefits for local communities and nature conservation.

The offer includes inexpensive wildlife safaris that combine game viewing, hikes, cultural encounters, stays in safari lodges and classic overland trips. Whether alone, as a couple, with friends or family — you can take part in fixed travel dates or have an individually guided private trip planned.

Your task:
You will accompany the group trips as a German-speaker*r Contact person*on site and supports the professional, English-speaking guide throughout the tour. Your main task is to translate the guide's explanations into German and thus ensure that all guests understand the content and context perfectly. In addition, you get involved in everyday travel — whether organising on site, communicating with guests or assisting with logistical processes. You are always available to tour participants and actively contribute to making them feel comfortable and well looked after.

What you should bring with you:
You have excellent German and English skills and enjoy conveying content clearly and comprehensibly. Flexibility, stamina and the willingness to engage with new situations and cultures are just as important for this task as an open spirit and team spirit.

Framework conditions:
The duration of your assignment is ideally between four and eight months — the exact period is coordinated individually. In between trips, you'll be at our partner's location in Johannesburg (South Africa).

Compensation:
During your trips, you will receive a daily allowance of 850 ZAR (as of 2025). There is a reduced flat rate of 235 ZAR per day for office work in Johannesburg. Taxes and, where applicable, compensatory deductions apply. In addition, you will receive tips from the tour participants, which will flow directly to you.

Meals:
During the tours, food is completely included. In between trips, you feed yourself.

accommodation:
On the tours, accommodation is an integral part of the program. Between assignments in Johannesburg, you must arrange your own accommodation. In the past, it was possible to temporarily stay with team members.

Arrival & transportation:
Travel to South Africa is at your own expense. You are also responsible for transportation between trips (e.g. from accommodation to meeting point).

This internship or sabbatical is not a traditional job, but an intensive learning experience in an exceptional environment. It is not primarily about making money, but about the unique opportunity to get to know Africa from a very special perspective. You are up close and personal when nature, wildlife and cultural encounters come together in an authentic way. You will not only learn a lot about everyday safari life and sustainable tourism, but you will also develop personally through new experiences, challenges and encounters.

Please send your application via email to hallo@ajimba.com or give us a call if you have any further questions. However, please also note that we (Ajimba African Tours) are not the job provider, but only provide them.
