New South African entry requirements for minors

Since the beginning of November 2019, entry requirements to South Africa have improved significantly. This makes it easier to travel with your children to the southern tip of Africa.

Children need their own passport with photo to enter the Republic of South Africa. The passport has the same requirements as adults. Parents no longer need any additional documents in addition to valid passports when entering South Africa with children (as of November 2019). This also applies if only one parent enters South Africa with the child or the child is accompanied by a third person.

Until recently, certified birth certificates of all accompanying children and a declaration of consent from the second legal guardian had to be carried along, depending on marital status. Minors who travel completely alone still need additional documents.

For more information on entry requirements for minors, contact the South African embassies and consulates or find here current information on the new entry requirements for minors.
