The Rhino Route offers an immersive self-drive safari through some of Botswana’s most wildlife-rich regions and Namibia’s Zambezi region. With your own 4x4 and full camping gear, you set your own pace.
From the Moremi Game Reserve, the route takes you through Khwai, Savuti, and Chobe National Park into the former Caprivi Strip. You will then return to Maun via Ngepi and the Tsodilo Hills. You will spend most nights in a rooftop tent, surrounded by nature.

Day by day on your journey
Arrival and 4x4 Handover
After arrival, transfer to the rental station for a thorough briefing on the vehicle, camping equipment and route. Afterwards, there is time to shop for supplies before your first night at a campsite in Maun.
Safari in Moremi
Drive into Moremi Game Reserve and spend two days among savannah, woodland and the waterways of the Okavango Delta. The region offers excellent chances of seeing buffalo, antelope, elephants and predators.
Along the Khwai River
After breaking camp, continue to the Khwai area on Moremi's northern boundary. The unfenced wilderness allows animals to move freely between woodland, rivers and lagoons.
Savuti in Chobe National Park
Continue to Savuti in the heart of Chobe National Park. The open savannah is famous for elephants, buffalo, migrating zebra and wildebeest, with good chances of seeing lions, hyenas, cheetahs and wild dogs.

The route leads to the Chobe River. Elephants, hippos and large herds of buffalo are particularly characteristic of this water-rich area and provide rewarding wildlife viewing.
From Botswana to Namibia
After a final morning game drive, travel to Kasane to restock supplies and refuel. Either stay overnight there or continue via Ngoma into Namibia to the Katima Mulilo region.
Wild National Parks along the Kwando
Two days are available for the little-visited protected areas of the Zambezi Region. Mudumu, Bwabwata and Nkasa Rupara offer pristine landscapes and frequent encounters with elephants and buffalo.
On the Okavango in Namibia
The next camp lies directly on the Okavango. From here, excursions to Mahango and Bwabwata or the nearby Popa Falls are possible.
Rock Art in the Kalahari
Return to Botswana and visit the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Tsodilo Hills. Local guides lead you to the numerous rock paintings of this remarkable cultural landscape.
Return to Maun
After breaking camp, drive back to Maun. Return the 4x4 there and your safari comes to an end.
