We carefully try to approach the animals without them noticing us.
We are very close to nature!
The zebras haven't noticed us yet!
In the evening, we set up our camp and enjoy the stories and pictures of the day.
When it gets dark, we hear the animal sounds even more intensely!

Travel details

Overview

Back to basics...

This course is a slightly gentler version of the real Primitive Trails and is ideal for hiking guides who want to collect a significant number of hours in a short period of time, or for those who simply want to switch off from their hectic lives and reconnect with the wilderness.

A mix of wild camping and sleeping under the stars and a minimalistic wilderness camp. With no vehicles and no signs of human hands, this is an authentic wilderness trail.

The course can be completed as an independent experience or added to the end of our hiking guide course to increase your hiking hours and bring you closer to your qualification as a “back-up hiking guide” (BQA) or “hiking guide trainee” (FGASA).

Whichever way you do it, you won't regret it.

Objectives and qualifications of participants:

This course is not an independent qualification. Participants receive a certificate of attendance. All hours spent on the trail can be counted towards a current or later trail guide qualification.

You don't need any previous knowledge. However, you should have sufficient English language skills have and are generally in good fitness.

Itinerary:

First day:
The trainer from the African Guide Academy meets all participants at Duck Cafe opposite Maun Airport at 14h00. This allows students to arrive on international flights on the first day of the course (flights usually arrive at 1:15 p.m.). In order to have enough time to arrive at Kwapa Training Camp while it is still light, we can only give a grace period until 3:30pm in the event of flight delays. We strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance that covers your overnight stay and unscheduled transfer to camp in case your flight is drastically delayed.

Daily activities:
Each morning, we wake up early, have a light breakfast, and set off on foot into the wilderness. We return to our camp for lunch and take a break. In the afternoon, we set off on foot in another direction.
We will spend a maximum of 3 nights in our wilderness camp before moving on to another location on foot. Depending on the water level, we will load our equipment into mokoros (dugboats) or the equipment will be transported by vehicle while we take our supplies for the day.

Last day:
We walk or take the Mokoro back to Kwapa Training Camp, where a vehicle is waiting for us to take us back to Maun, where we arrive at Duck Café around 11 o'clock.

Please note that this is only a rough overview, which can and will change depending on the needs of guests and external factors - and on some days it is even not met at all! We leave it up to the wilderness to determine the best possible experiences.
